While working for the NHS in the early 1990s, I also had a part time job working for my local Gino’s Dial-A-Pizza which I thoroughly enjoyed. I eventually left the NHS and bought my first Gino’s Dial-A- Pizza franchise in 1993 (Leamington Spa) with a partner, while studying for my MBA at Wolverhampton University.
Gino’s Dial-A-Pizza was acquired by Perfect Pizza a few months later. The operational standards were higher, the product second to none and the taste distinct. I saw my first store growing in sales from strength to strength.
Gaining great passion for the business, it is truly rewarding when effort and focus is put into product quality, better professional level of service and, finally, marketing plans put into place pay off with continual growth in sales and standards of operation. A hands-on approach of running a store is essential to be successful.
I was very impressed with the level of support that was given to me and the unique ideas of promoting a store not only from a national level but also from a local level. This prompted me to buy another store just after a year, which meant I had to quit my MBA after the first year to pursue expanding with Perfect Pizza and I have never looked back.
I have had up to 9 stores and enjoyed my well earned profits from hard work and total commitment. Many of my friends who were in professional jobs have commented on the lifestyle I have and eventually bought into rival pizza delivery brands. They report the level of assistance, guidance and general support are basic and there is a charge for anything more than basic training. Perfect Pizza’s approach is that we are one big team; there is no charge for training or assistance in marketing and general support. A Regional Manager is only a cost of a phone call for whatever assistance is required once on board.
Perfect Pizza has been acquired several times in the 13 years since I joined and I see this as a positive advancement. New strategy gives the brand new direction and avenues of business in a very competitive environment.
The implementation of advanced computer systems helps with operational standards, which are required and continual diverse tools for marketing keeps Perfect Pizza ahead in the market place with its innovative and creative approach. I certainly hope to be in business another 13 years or longer. I have seen many brands come and go but feel Perfect Pizza is an established brand throughout the country, which in my mind defines us as a clear leader in the field."
